The History of Lomilomi
Traditionally, the spiritual component is important in Lomi Lomi and practitioners begin the session by saying a prayer. Lomi Lomi incorporates the Hawaiian concept of aloha, which is an expression of love, unification, breath, and promotes personal harmony. Even in modern practice, Lomi Lomi therapists are taught to focus on the massage with love and intention. Auntie Margaret is often quoted as having said that the difference between massage and Lomi Lomi is "loving touch".
Lomi Lomi is a Hawaiian massage technique that was passed down within families, so for that reason there are a number of different styles that exist. One of the first people to each Lomi Lomi to non-Hawaiians was Auntie Margaret Machado, who continued to teach until her passing in 2009. Auntie Margaret taught and shared with those who wanted to learn the "loving touch". Her style of Lomi Lomi is still very prevalent amongst the practitioners of today.
《Auntie Margaret Method 》
“Aloha and prayer are the essence of lomilomi.
Touching the body with a loving touch, if your hands are gentle and loving, your patient will feel the sincerity of your heart and their soul will reach out to yours so the Lord’s healing will flow through you both”.
